His streak continues with Somers Town, a quick, hour long drama following the lives of two teens in London, both from different backgrounds who develop a friendship around the love of a French waitress. One of the kids is Thomas Turgoose who was the main kid in This is England (fucking awesome!). The whole movie is shot in black and white and for that, it helped to draw me in. I loved the story, the subtle build of friendship between the two guys and that the relationship they build with the waitress isn't too over the top. It's all done with a deft hand, something I find Meadows to be good at. Another good outing from him. I was so into it I moved one of his earlier movies "Once Upon A Time in the Midlands" to the top of my queue. |
